Barton Reading & Spelling System
The Barton Reading and Spelling System is designed to systematically improve one’s ability to read, spell, and write. Barton is Orton-Gillingham influenced, structured literacy, and considered the gold-standard for dyslexic instruction.
How this works
- The Barton Reading and Spelling System consists of 10 levels which take approximately 18 to 36 months to complete. Advancement is made at the student’s pace of understanding.
- Student must attend at least two sessions per week for a 50-minute professional hour.
- For average dyslexia:
- 2x week = 36 months
- 3x week = 24 months
- 4x week = 18 months
- Be advised that if the student has severe dyslexia it may take longer than 36 months.
- A diagnosis of dyslexia is not necessary. If symptoms align, Barton will be beneficial.
- For average dyslexia:
Handwriting Without Tears
Handwriting Without Tears is designed to improve one’s ability to handwrite in print or cursive with neat and fast results.
How this works
Handwriting instruction is optional. If chosen, ten minutes of handwriting instruction is given during each 50-minute session.
